With 12 years of tutoring experience, Jade volunteered as an English teacher for immigrants, served as a professional tutor mentor, and was a teaching assistant in Vietnam through a Fulbright scholarship. Despite facing obstacles from a limited educational background, Jade's success story is a testament to the transformative power of mentorship and education. These challenges fueled her determination to create a positive impact in the lives of students facing similar struggles.
As a tutor, Jade’s mission is to offer the same unwavering support and encouragement that proved instrumental in her own journey. She specializes in SAT and ACT tutoring, with an emphasis on the English, Reading, and Writing sections, as well as English, history, sociology, and anthropology courses at all levels, including AP and IB.
Jade employs an empowering and personalized tutoring style, fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment. In her approach, she recognizes each student's unique strengths and challenges, celebrating both small and significant achievements to boost confidence and underscore the progress made through practice. Empathy, patience, and practicality are also major components of her tutoring style, as she emphasizes both academic success and holistic development, including critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By fostering open communication, she encourages students to express their challenges and questions. With a focus on active participation and critical thinking, she aims to instill confidence and a passion for learning that extends beyond the tutoring sessions.
Jade’s greatest strength as a tutor is her adaptability. She develops personalized learning plans and utilizes diverse resources to address the unique needs of individual learners, ensuring that the tutoring sessions align with their goals, preferences, and interests. She strongly believes that clearly defined and personalized goals give students a sense of purpose and direction.
In her free time, Jade enjoys collecting passport stamps, gardening, ballet, paddle boarding, and practicing chado (a traditional Japanese tea ceremony). She strives to be the counselor she wished she had and is passionate about simplifying the process and removing barriers to higher education for all students. She believes it is a true privilege to empower students to confidently navigate this exciting chapter of their lives. Her coaching style is influenced by her background as an athlete and educator and her preference for the "challenge and support" student personnel model.
In her coaching role, Jada excels at helping students recognize their autonomy and capabilities. She believes in collaborative work, valuing both counselor and student expertise. She approaches students holistically, recognizing their diverse identities and life circumstances. She uses a variety of teaching strategies, including auditory, visual, and kinesthetic methods, tailoring her approach to each student’s needs and motivations.
By identifying whether students struggle with extrinsic or intrinsic motivation or both, she helps them rediscover their goals and address underlying factors affecting their drive. Jada aims to empower students through support and belief in their potential, providing both affirmation and honest feedback. Students Jada has mentored have been accepted to some of the nation’s top schools, particularly in the UC school system.
In her free time, Jada enjoys going on nature walks with her dog, reading, going to comic book stores, hosting TV show watch parties with friends, drawing and making digital art, making playlists for friends, and going to drag shows! In fact, Jada played soccer competitively for 15 years and managed the Maryland Women's Basketball Team, which allowed her to travel to the NCAA March Madness Tournament until the Elite 8 round!

Robert earned his Bachelor of Science from Yale University. With five years of tutoring experience and two years of peer mentoring for college readiness, he has successfully mentored over 150 students. His tutoring journey started out of a genuine passion for educating students about the sciences, particularly physics, and understanding the dynamics of the world around us.
Robert's passion for tutoring comes from the deep satisfaction he gets from helping students access a vast body of knowledge and easing their anxieties about homework and tests. He aims to prove that physics can be relevant and interesting to anyone. His tutoring is guided by the metaphor that every beautiful mansion is built upon a boring, plain, but sturdy foundation. He specializes in ACT and SAT prep and tutors physics at every level, including AP and IB, and AP chemistry.
As a tutor, Robert strikes a balance between being engaging and laid-back. He aims to captivate students' attention so they can fully immerse themselves in the subject matter. By making the content relatable to their lives or breaking it down into simpler terms, he enhances their understanding. Moreover, he believes in alleviating students' academic anxieties to foster a more receptive learning environment and improve their grades. Simultaneously, he values students' individuality and space, allowing them the freedom to engage with the material in their own unique ways.
Robert excels at tailoring his teaching methods to match each student’s unique needs. Whether they learn best visually, tactilely, or through another approach, he crafts an environment that caters to their learning style. Embracing a "go with the flow" mentality, Robert believes in the power of adaptation, likening it to water carving great canyons. By adjusting to what works best for each student, he leaves a lasting imprint on their education. Additionally, Robert adeptly navigates through students’ obstacles by revisiting fundamental concepts one by one, identifying misunderstandings, and addressing them effectively.
Outside of tutoring, Robert is a musician. He’s played the piano for 20 years and loves Baroque music (huzzah for counterpoint!). He is also a bell nerd; he plays the carillon, a keyboard instrument connected to an assembly of bells typically located in church clock towers or civil buildings.
